Riot Games has released a League of Legends RPG and a rhythm game without too much fanfare. Both games, which were previously teased on the Epic Game Store, are available on both Epic’s platform and on Steam, where you’ll probably want to buy it anyway.
The release of the two new titles coincides with Arcane on Netflix, the first animated series based on the League of Legends franchise.
Ruined King, originally announced in 2019, is the first title to be published under the Riot Forge label, which has third party studios developing titles for the League of Legends franchise.
Set in the two regions of Runeterra — for anyone following the story — players will party up with multiple League champions including Miss Fortune, Illaoi, Braum, Yasuo, Ahri, and Pyke, who must cooperate to bring down the eponymous Ruined King.
Developed by the makers of Battle Chasers: Nightwar, fans of the original Final Fantasy games will feel at home in the Ruined King, which has top-down overworld exploration and turn-based combat similar to the studio’s other game. It features a unique “lane initiative system,” which sees champions taking turns casting lane, instant, and ultimate abilities.
Additionally, the game promises to offer all sorts of free-form exploration activities such as fishing, bounty hunts, a bestiary collector, side quests, and even a battle arena. It’s a lot of offerings compared to other top-down RPGs — and more than just some kind of cash grab with the League franchise.

The second game, Hextech Mayhem, is a rhythm runner akin to Bit.Trip Runner. In fact, it’s made by the same developers. Announced only last week, Hextech Mayhem features the furry trash goblin Ziggs, who must beat auto-runs in a League of Legends setting. It’s simple, fun, but not too much to write home about.
Ruined King is out on Steam and Epic Games Store for $30 and Hextech Mayhem is out for a fraction of the cost at $10. Purchases of Ruined King within the first month will gain access to an in-game weapon unique to Yasuo.
