Epic Games Removes Travis Scott Emote From Fortnite Following Astroworld Disaster

Epic Games is removing a Travis Scott emote from Fortnite following the disastrous events at Astroworld last weekend. Eight people were killed amid a stampede that occurred while Scott was performing.

The game developer previously  hosted “Astronomical” with Travis Scott in 2020 as as “one of a kind musical journey featuring Travis Scott and the world premier of a brand new track. Astronomical is an other-worldly experience inspired by Cactus Jack’s creations, built from the ground up in Fortnite.”

Essentially, Travis Scott had his concert broadcast in-game using a virtual avatar. Players who participated in the virtual concert received a wide range of outfits, emotes, and other cosmetic items.

Following the events this past weekend, Fortnite removed a music emote featuring Travis Scott from the in-game item shop. Scott is currently facing legal action over the deaths of the eight people at the Texas music festival.

Epic Games acknowledged that the company is pulling the Out West emote, which features a sample of music from “Out West” by Travis Scott and Jackboys. Although the company failed to detail its reason for pulling the paid item, the reason should be obvious to anyone, although some reports suggest that the Old West emote was removed on Monday, as it was likely timed for the end of Astroworld.

Travis Scott and accompanying artist Drake are being sued for having “incited mayhem” over the incident, The Guardian reported on Monday. The incident saw eight people were killed. More than 300 people were also injured during the crush at Scott’s opening night performance on Friday.

The rest of the Astroworld event, which is organized yearly by Travis Scott and held in Houston, Texas, has been scrapped for the foreseeable future.

The move to remove Travis Scott’s Old West emote was welcomed by the community, who are now asking if Epic Games plans to remove skins and other items related to Travis Scott from the game. Currently, players who already own these items can dress up as Travis Scott and perform his emote while killing other players.
